There are a number of sites that I go to on a regular basis to learn new things. In order to keep current in the world of education I frequent the Education Week site, edweek.org. To keep up on current events that are happening in the world I read cnn.com. I also use twitter to learn new things on a variety of topics: health and fitness, world news, and education news.
Two of my favorite authors are Jodi Picoult and JoJo Moyes. In the past I have semi-regularly looked at both authors websites to keep up to date on what they are working on or whatever it is that they posted about. Now that I am on twitter I started following both authors twitter accounts. I am excited to see what exactly they tweet about and if it will be similar to their website posts or not.
The internet definitely assists me in my learning but not all the time. There are definitely times where it becomes a huge distraction too. Most of the time it is helpful because am a pretty self-motivated and disciplined person. That being said, there are those times when I am not as disciplined as I would like to be and my 5 minute break that I allowed myself to take has now turned into 20 minutes on pinterest. It is extremely easy to become distracted when you are working on the internet which is why it is important to be disciplined when it comes to working.
I believe that technology and learning now come hand in hand. Students today are learning in a completely new and different way than when I was growing up. This is necessary because the job market is now changing too with the influence that the internet has had on our world. If educators want children to be prepared for their future, technology is a must in learning.
